This is a drama about truth. Elysia questions her Papa's faith, because she cannot find any evidence that the Bible stories she grew up with are true or that God is just or compassionate. But Papa has some tough questions, toolike where compassion even comes from if something as uncompassionate as natural selection is at work.
Then he lovingly probes, "Let me ask youhave you done the work on this stuff, or are you just quoting Joe? Which is a little like asking if you're just wanting to chuck it so you can do what you want, or do you really want to know? Ask your questions, Elysia. Truth never has to back down; it's not afraid of any question you've got."

The Perfect Fit Church programming people know it's a big challenge to find a prewritten drama script that artfully compliments the pastor's message, leading the congregation to be emotionally and intellectually open to the points God has impressed on his heart.
But "Changing Minds" was the perfect fit with a message series our paster gave based on John Ortberg's great book, "Faith & Doubt."
Elysia's questions echo common struggles people have with Biblical accounts of miracles and the seeming disconnect between a just and loving God and the horrible suffering in the world.
Papa's response is measured and patient, yet firm. And the way he models God the Father by encouraging Elysia to ask the hard questions and assuring her of of his unconditional love is beautiful for the deep, steady truth it reveals.
God clearly can use this drama to prepare hearts for even more truth.
This script is not a "skit," but a very nuanced drama that will be a pleasurable challenge for your actors and director. We found it very effective. Kudos to Mr. Berryman.
